Meet Maria: Our Expert on Social Security and Women’s Retirement
Maria Freese is an attorney with 17 years of legislative experience as a staffer on Capitol Hill and almost two decades advocating for clients interested in having their concerns heard in Washington, DC. Her experience includes handling Appropriations issues for former Rep. Norm Dicks (D-WA), serving as Legislative Director for Rep. L.F. Payne (D-VA), a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, and as Tax Counsel to the Senate Finance Committee.
After leaving the Hill, Ms. Freese served as Director of Government Relations and Counsel for the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare. She subsequently partnered with former Congresswoman Barbara Kennelly (D-CT) in a boutique lobbying firm and taught political science courses at Trinity Washington University. She currently serves as Senior Policy Advisor to the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare on Social Security and retirement issues.
