Today, on behalf of the 22,000 NCPSSM members in Arizona, the National Committee to Preserve Social Security & Medicare PAC proudly endorses U.S. Rep. Ruben Gallego for United States Senate. Arizona is one of the most important battlegrounds this election year, and Arizonans have a rare opportunity to send a proven champion for seniors to the Senate.
Many politicians claim to support Social Security, but Ruben Gallego has a record to stand on — earning a 100% lifetime rating on the National Committee’s Congressional Scorecard. As a House member, he has fought efforts to cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, voting consistently to expand and strengthen these programs. His Boosting Benefits and COLAs for Seniors Act would put more dollars in Social Security beneficiaries’ pockets to pay their bills, get their medications and better afford their housing costs.
In stark contrast, Arizona voters cannot trust Gallego’s opponent, hardcore election denier Kari Lake, to defend their earned benefits. Lake claims that she would “protect” Social Security for those nearing retirement, implying that she would willingly cut benefits for younger Arizonans, who will need retirement security as much or more than today’s seniors do.
Republicans have already told us what they want to do if they regain the majority in both houses of Congress — raise the retirement age, means-test benefits, and adopt a more miserly COLA formula, while opposing making the wealthy pay their fair share into Social Security. Electing Kari Lake to the Senate would give them one more vote for this right-wing agenda. Arizona’s working people can’t afford to take a chance on Kari Lake.
Ruben Gallego has served his country throughout his life. The National Committee looks forward to working with Senator Gallego next year as he serves seniors and their families in the U.S. Senate. – Max Richtman, President and CEO, National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare
